On 7/17/15, Me and my husband was at the Garnerway Foundation First Annual Commemorative “All White” Event. The first part of the event was held at: The House Of The Lord in Brooklyn and the second part of the event was held at The Restoration Plaza, also located in Brooklyn. this event was held to celebrate “THE LIFE OF ERIC GARNER”. Eric Garner was a Father; a Son; a Grandfather; a Brother; an Uncle; a Cousin; and Friends with so many people within the 5 boroughs of New York and all over the world.
Eric Garner died a year ago to date, in Staten Island, New York City, after a police officer (Officer Daniel Pantaleo – an officer of the 120 precinct,) put him in what has been described as a “chokehold” which is illegal.
Eric Garner leaves behind his mother Mrs. Gwen Carr, along with his wife Esaw Garner. His children Emery Garner, Legacy Garner, Emerald Garner and Erica Garner. His sibling – Lisha Flagg and a hosts of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends from all over the world.
While at The Restoration Plaza, I had the chance to join hundreds of people who attended The Garnerway Foundation First Annual Commemorance Event. It was indeed a glamorous event. I had the opportunity to listen to (Read more about The Garnerway Foundation First Annual Commemorative Event soon)
Erica Garner spoke, (while standing at the podium) about how her daughter won’t have a grandfather. She won’t have a father. She remembers how her daughter would open up her birthday gifts and receive her birthday cake with a big smile. She also joked about how the birthday cake would never be on schedule but, it was always on time. She also spoke about receiving their Christmas tree. How her father loved to watch them as kids, while they decorate their Christmas tree, They never asked him “How or Where he got the Christmas tree. She loved it because It was all about the family. It was a family ritual. As they grew up, the Christmas tree became bigger.
He was their protector Erica stated. They couldn’t trick or treat the way everyone else did because of their neighborhood. So, her father went out and purchased lots of candy and brought it home for them to enjoy. He always took his grandchildren to the park and watch them play. But, he won’t be doing that any more.
Erica also stated, she recently found documents that showed how her father “Eric Garner” were being harassed for many years by the Police.
Erica continued to say… She remembers an episode as a child, of how her father dropped a whole lot of crabs on her and her sister. It scared the both of them. They ran around the house as he used to chase them with the crabs.
She said, he would be missed as a Dad; As a Granddad; As a human. Erica then stated, As I reflect on my dad, constantly saying… ‘I CAN’T BREATHE” 11 TIMES, IT WAS US HE WAS CRYING OUT TO. HE WAS CRYING OUT TO GET BACK HOME TO US. Erica thanked everyone for coming out to celebrate the day her dad “Eric Garner” died.
The below picture is Eric Garner’s cousin. He reflects on how he and Eric grew up together. He stated, I have a lot of emotions over this. At the end of the day, that cop is still on the payroll and Eric is gone. No settlement will bring his life back. have lost. A day to celebrate Eric and others who are no longer with us. concluded by saying…. I will forever miss my cousin Eric.
The below picture is Vic. Vic is the Vice President of the event called “The 10th Annual Coney Island Community Block Party.” But, tomorrow will also be a day of dedication. A day to reflect on our loved ones – who have passed away. One of those people would be “Eric Garner.” That day, 7/18/2015 will be called: “Rememberance Day” Vic stated… This day meant a lot to him. Eric’s been gone for a year to this date but, he will never be forgotten. He stated… It’s a tragedy – what has happened to Eric. Eric’s death, his tragedy, has brought a lot of awareness to the people. He further stated… He is the Vice President of the “Coney Island Community Block Party” event, in which Eric Garner appeared every year. This year we wanted to really give back. So, that is why we are adding an addition to this Block Party which will be on 7/18/2015 – “rain date” 7/19/2015, It ‘s something special and it’s in rememberance of Eric and others that we lost. Tomorrow, we will March and Rally for Eric Garner and for all of the people that is no longer with us. It will be a day of celebration and appreciation. It will be a day to remember and reflect on past relatives and friends whom meant so much to us. It will be called: “Rememberance Day”. Rememberance day will be held at the Nautilus Park on 30th street and Boardwalk, in Brooklyn. We need to stop the violence. Come and join us for this walk and rally. Come out and celebrate with us and the Eric garner family.
